Somewhat Exotic Meals

FLAN

So this was definitely new for me. I tried flan for the first time at Santa Clara University at a Cross-Country Banquet. It was catered in from a mexican food catering company, along with delicous main course food for dinner. Flan was interesting. The texture was similiar to hardened pudding, and very jiggly. I knew that it was a custard with a caramel topping before I tried it, but the texture made it hard for me to completely like it. The top part (caramel topping) was good since the caramel seemed to have been baked with sugar, but the custard itself did not have a specific taste. Therefore, it felt like I was eating something jiggly without much taste to it. I am glad I tried it though, because I like varying from my usual comfort foods.

RASPBERRY CHICKEN

Shown above is raspberry chicken, which I ate at the Bamboo House located right off of 7th street and Thunderbird in Phoenix, AZ. I also had some white rice with it, and the combination was delcious! As you can see, there was a lot of raspberry sauce from the dish, so that tasted very good with the bland white rice. The chicken itself was cooked perfectly as well. I would definitely recommend it for anyone who enjoys testing the limits with comfort food!

CHEESE FONDUE
I was lucky enough to indulge in some cheese fondue when my brothers came home from the University of Arizona for the weekend. As you can see, we had apples, along with broccoli and bread (not pictured). The fondue itself was made with beer, and it was amazingly good!!! I think my mom is perfecting the art of fondue now. The best part was that this was only an appetizer to the ribs that we were going to eat later on! This definitely qualified as a great food night!

TERRYAKI BOWL

I enjoyed this terryaki bowl at True Food Kitchen, located at the Biltmore on 2502 E. Camelback Road in Phoenix. It consisted of  chicken, broccoli, green beans, brown rice, and was topped off with avocado.Feel free to view the food options here on the dinner menu. The best part about True Foods was that the cooks use fresh vegetables every day, and provide delicious, healthy options for all ages. I thought this meal was delicious and would definitely recommend it!

TILAPIA and PASTA

I enjoyed this tilapia and pasta dish at the Olive Garden  located on 10223 N Metro Pkwy in Phoenix. It was a great  combination of fish, vegetables, and pasta! I chose angel hair, and the tilapia itself was great since it did not have the usual fishy taste. The vegetables added the extra zest that was needed, as well as some nutritional value. I would definitely order this meal because it tasted great and pretty much covered all the food groups!

CARIBBEAN SALAD

I indulged in this Caribbean Salad at Chile's over the weekend. It was a great mixture of the ordinary comfort salad with some fruit added to spice it up! I really enjoyed the pineapple and grilled chicken the most. There were also mandarine oranges and bell peppers which added to the taste! The ranch dressing was also very good, which I chose instead of the citrus dressing originally offered. All in all, I would definitely  recommend this salad to anyone who wants a healthier option, yet a meal that is more exotic than a house salad.

MAHI MAHI TACOS

I went out to a restaurant called Padre's last week with my mom and brother. It is located on 1044 East Camelback Road, with a modern mexican cuisine, so there were a lot of great options to choose from. I decided on the Mahi Mahi tacos because Iliked that fact that there was pineapple in them. Surprisingly, the mahi mahi was pretty bland, so all I could really taste was everything but the fish. This was a little disappointing, but the rice and beans were amazing! I always like their rice since they put corn in it, which really adds a lot of flavor! I love Padre's as a restuarant, but I would not recommend this dish since it was pretty bland in my opinion.
